Let me start by saying OH MY GOD! We went to Packrat Louie on Saturday to enjoy an afternoon on the patio. I had checked out their recently changed menu online and couldn't wait to get there. The Chef has put a number of Foie Gras items on the menu (which of course I love!) so it turned into "Foie Gras Saturday". We first started with a half litre of Pinot Grigio and a Cider.
Then came our first dish - Foie Gras French Toast. This was literally the best thing I've ever eaten! As you can see, the French Toast was thick and light and airy. It had two very nice pieces of Foie Gras on it and then covered in fresh fruit and maple syrup. The flavor combinations were out of this world! So good. I don't think Philly got any of the Foie Gras!
Then we moved on to the Foie Gras pizza. This dish definitely isn't for the faint of heart or calorie conscious. With the Foie and the cheese both being quite fatty, there's a lot of fat on the plate. It was topped with an apricot jam which brought a nice sweet contrast. For $24 there was a very generous amount of Foie Gras provided with a slice on each of the six pieces. Hint: This is $10 after 10 pm!
And then after a bit of a break and some wine, we tried the Foie Gras Spinach Dip. This too was good and the Foie Gras certainly gave it a different flavor which was very good, if I didn't know that it was Foie Gras in it I certainly wouldn't have guessed it. The only complaint was that the bread was too charred for my liking and it took away from the flavor of the dip.
A couple of other people's dishes as they were going by!
This was an outstanding afternoon, one that we will be repeating again soon. Our server was very attentive and efficient and the Manager came by to introduce himself and ensure we were enjoying everything. I absolutely have to return for the Foie Gras French Toast - delicious! There are a few other items on the menu that I want to try though including the Lobster Pizza and the Lobster Perogies. We've been to Packrat Louie before but with the great changes to the menu that the Chef has made (and the many Foie Gras options provided), this restaurant is now one of our top favorites!
